The first documentary mention of Villach as a town was around 1240; in the late middle ages Villach was the most important town in the Carinthian region.
Today Villach is characterised by its vitality and southern flair, particularly in its main square and the side streets leading off from it. Villach’s main square or “Hauptplatz” is among Austria’s "Top Ten Shopping Miles”.
Many measures have been taken and are still being taken to make Villach even more attractive as a commercial location. Villach’s old town with its elegant Italianate squares is the setting for a number of events – Villach “Stadtkultur” with its own special joie de vivre...
... and of course the town centre offers a varied mix of boutiques, specialist shops, cafés, restaurants and much more, as well as six individually run old town hotels.
