The Parkhotel and Parkcafé Villach was built in 1910/11 and has been hosting major social events ever since.
Closed in 1989, it was only to re-open some 9 years later, in the autumn of 1998. But things turned out differently: On December 18, 1997, there was a fire in the attic, and the newly renovated roof truss was utterly destroyed. The upper floors, which had been left intact by the fire, were detrimentally affected by firefighting water. The damage was about 70 million Schillings, and renovation took another 2 years.
The renovation was carried through with a view to the status of the building as a historical monument and successfully restored the traditional ambience and atmosphere while providing the infrastructure of a modern-day venue for cultural events. It is no secret that the citizens of Villach have always been fond of PARKHOTEL -- which comes as no surprise, thinking of the legendary balls, the Austria Bar, or the homey atmosphere of the Park Café.
