650 years ago, the second, major rock avalanche came down Dobratsch Mountain on the border to Italy and Slovenia. It seemed as if all life in the area was buried under rock.
But soon nature showed that it was able to deal with disasters of this order of magnitude. Today, the "Schütt", the avalanche at Dobratsch, is one of the biologically most diverse regions in central Europe. The Schütt region has a marvelous flora including Alpine violets and a protected gladiolus meadow.
